ROI vs win rate

Two numbers that look similar and mean very different things. This is educational content, not betting advice.

What each number means

Win rate is the share of picks that won. ROI (return on investment) is profit in units divided by units staked. Profit units and average odds give the full picture.

A worked example

A tipster betting longshots can win less than half the time and still be highly profitable. Another can win most picks at short odds and barely break even.

Tipster A
42% win
Avg odds 2.80 · +14% ROI
Tipster B
68% win
Avg odds 1.35 · -2% ROI
Takeaway
ROI wins
Higher win rate ≠ more profit

Both need sample size

Over a handful of picks, either number can mislead. TipStaq always shows ROI and win rate next to the settled-pick count and time window so you can judge how much weight to give them.

Frequently asked questions

Is a higher win rate always better?

No. A high win rate at short odds can still lose money, while a lower win rate at higher odds can be profitable. ROI captures profitability; win rate does not.

Which number should I trust most?

Read them together, and always with sample size. ROI shows profitability, win rate shows consistency, and average odds explain the risk behind both.
